We have been working VERY hard behind the scenes here to get our classes up on the website by our May 15 deadline… and we did it, just barely!!! We have our ‘favorite’ classes returning, such as the Junior Production (Alice in Wonderland!!), “High Notes,” and another staged reading (“The Crucible!”). But some of our older classes have gotten an upgrade. Miss Abigail’s ballet classes are now called Creative Dance, and there are three options to choose from. We have pared this with Classical Ballet, and have an outstanding combo package so that students can take both- getting a well-rounded dance experience at about half the price of regular studios. Speaking of dance, we are thrilled to have Heather Brown back with us, expanding on the Ballet Master Class she offered this past year for ages 12-18. Students can take their choice of a ballet technique class, combined with a dance appreciation/history class where students will learn about famous ballet pieces over the centuries, and even go on a field trip to a professional ballet to see them rehearse. I, myself, wish I had taken more ballet when I was younger- it is excellent for improving posture, balance, and strength.
Our “In the Spotlight” classes have had a very exciting facelift! We are proud to be collaborating with Maestro Classics– an award-winning company that produces CDs paring Children’s literature with Classical Music pieces. Students in these classes will learn the basics of acting while also learning about music appreciation, composers, and music theory! This class will culminate in a presentation for parents as they retell the story using music cues. Nicole Cannella has joined our team of professional instructors and will be leading this class – we are certain it will be a hit.
Beyond the performing arts, we are offering classes in Photography (with industry professional Shawon Davis), and have expanded on our Digital Film Class offerings with Rebekah Tracy, which have been very popular the past two years. Students can also choose to learn the art of sewing and costume design with Pam Macbeth, who has been working on our productions for years and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to this craft. There truly is something for everyone this upcoming year!
In the meantime- our Salt+Light registration is open. Applications are due May 22, Interviews will be held on June 1.
Summer Workshops are also registering now- the June workshop is just a month away! Students will work with industry veterans Nicole Cannella and Rebekah Tracy to learn the art of acting for film, and will actually film their scenes during the workshop. Acting for film is VERY different from acting for the stage!
Our “Olaf’s Summer Vacation” is filling up very quickly… I have a feeling these kids still can’t get enough of Frozen 😉
Let us know if you have any questions- you can reach out to us using any of the options on our Contact page. We love to hear from you!
Three Cheers for Summer!
