Though the decorations are going up and it’s hard to think about the New Year, registrations are underway for classes beginning in January. By request, we have added more digital media courses. This post highlights our upcoming Photography course with popular professional photographer, Shawon Davis. Shawon homeschooled her three children for 10 years and is the is the owner and principal photographer of Shawon Davis Photography. Her work has been featured in MunaLuchi Bride Magazine, and on editorial wedding websites. As a photographer, she is a member of the Professional Photography Association, and she has successfully completed the first exam in earning the credential as a Certified Professional Photographer. Read more about Shawon here. Students will grow in their skills and appreciation of photography in these classes. There are two course options, which, combined, would create a 16-week course for high school credit.
Photography 101: Learning How to Shoot in Manual
In this class, students will learn how to use a digital camera in manual exposure mode. Learning how to use a camera in manual mode is the first step in creating the images that you envision as an artist. We will cover all of the basics of how shutter speed, aperture, and ISO work together to create an exposure. Each week students will progress through the exposure triangle, complete weekly assignments, receive feedback on their images, and learn how to see as an artist. At the end of the class, students will have a beautiful portfolio of the images that they make.
Photography 102: The Art of Composition
In this class, students will use their knowledge from Photography 101
and advance to learning the rules of composition. We will cover topics such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, framing, symmetry, cropping, and creating depth. Students will learn how to make images that are artistic and visually compelling. Students will completely weekly assignments and receive feedback on their images. At the end of the class, students will have a beautiful portfolio of images that they make.
