It has been a year of growth and achievement here at A Work in Progress! We started out with a bang, with our biggest mainstage production to date – NEWSIES brought down the house with its energy and excellence. Our classes were bursting at the seams with enthusiastic students of all ages, working on everything from drawing to film to dance, acting, music, costuming – you name it. We had the biggest TIP Crew ever, our first stage management class with students who then went on to assistant stage manage the junior production, and Salt+Light conquered their busiest gig season to date.
It has become somewhat familiar for us to rave about the achievements of our students… but behind the scenes you will find a staff of teachers who are pouring their hearts out into these classes. These teachers will happily prep for hours at home each week and find joy in the fact that the students are excelling in class. One of these hardworking staff members is Emily Cuellar, who will be unable to return with us in the fall. Here is a note from Miss Emily, who gave her all into the musical direction of Newsies as well as the “High Notes,” “Joyful Noise,” and “Vocal Technique” classes this past year.
Hey AWIP family!
I have some sad and happy news to share with you. Although I thought I would be with AWIP a lot longer, sometimes our plans are not the Lord’s plan. I just got a job as the Campus Minister and freshman Theology teacher at St. Patrick Academy, which means I will not be able to teach at AWIP next year. I humbly ask for you prayers in this new journey of my life. For this job, I’ll be introducing inner-city kids to who God is, teaching Salvation History, running retreats, leading a worship team, and ultimately being a support for teens in their walk with Christ. So I need a lot of prayers
I want to let you know how amazing it has been working with the staff, families, kids and teens of AWIP. When I first joined, I had no idea what I was getting into, but now I can honestly say I am thankful to God for giving me the opportunity to spend a year with you all. Your talent, passion, love and faith have truly inspired me! Newsies, you all made me so proud, especially since Newsies was the first show I ever music directed. I can’t wait to watch you Seize the Day from the audience at next years show! My prayers and love will be with you all!
Our last monthly newsletter stated that we are hiring several positions right now. If you are interested in being a part of the AWIP family, take a look at this form that lists current open positions… or simply tell us more about yourself! Maybe there is a place for you here even if it’s not listed on the form. We will miss you, Emily, and we are so grateful for your service to our students this year!
Oh and… in case you didn’t know… THE PROGRESS show is on May 16. You can see Miss Emily’s High Notes choir sing their best song one more time, along with several other class presentations, awards, and more! Join us in celebrating all that we have accomplished this year while looking to the future! Check out this video trailer and click on ‘Now playing’ for more details.
Contact us if you have any questions! See you in the spotlight,
Miss Jen, for all of us at AWIP
