It’s been a busy few weeks since livestreaming the Spring Play: Serve Up helped pick up lots of litter with Attleboro Mayor Paul Heroux; we filmed the junior production at the Attleboro Community Theatre; we held The Oz Red Carpet Cast Party (months after they performed, combining two of our annual events that we’ve had on hold due to covid); and Salt+Light had their first official gig for Trinity Community Church’s youth group. Illuminate students may love our mainstage musicals, but as part of a well-rounded arts education, we enjoy providing opportunities for them to experience smaller plays as well. Get your tickets now to see the cast of “Life in Moments,” filmed onstage last week, as they tackle scenes from classic plays. Yesterday was one of those days that lived up to this Spring’s theme— I think everyone would agree that we “found magic” while working through organized creative chaos! Sets, costumes, and props were loaded into the Attleboro Community Theatre for our first on-stage rehearsal. Within minutes the cast was on the stage rehearsing, while props were created for our Junior Production, and sets were painted. Meanwhile back at our building two doors down, classes continued to rehearse for their final presentations and for the junior production. The atmosphere in both buildings was electric with creativity and excitement, once again proving the resiliency of these kids and our staff. They don’t even notice the social distancing anymore...covid couldn’t hinder this community. Reverse Cyclone— that’s a great way to sum up 2020. We took it to the stage, and film! In this first video featuring the Ruby Cast, we combined film and stage techniques to create a unique experience for our livestream audience. And in the second clip, our Emerald Cast points the way to Oz- A journey that seemed impossible when we began. This week, both performances will be available for download, complete with bonus materials including a behind-the-scenes documentary. Link in bio for more. We must be over the rainbow: that’s how we felt as we tackled The Wizard of Oz as a livestreamed production with two casts, less rehearsal time, and a new stage. Not a single bit of this experience was familiar to any of us. On March 1, go behind the scenes to see how we made it happen in the new Documentary that is part of our digital download package. Both performances will be available for download, plus additional bonus content:) 2020 was the year to #believeinhome and we couldn’t have pulled this off without the support of our community. While our classes and productions have taken the spotlight, two outreach teams have been quietly meeting and serving all year long. Salt+Light has begun filming their famous sketches to share virtually (while also preparing for a few covid-safe gigs coming up), and our new Serve Up team has been serving at Soup Kitchens, cleaning up the space we rent, and preparing to do community service projects with the Mayor of Attleboro as soon as the weather cooperates. A glimpse at our second week of classes at the start of our second semester in a global pandemic: The lesson we’re learning? Social distancing doesn’t hinder the creativity... or fun. Are you signed up for classes yet? While several have filled, there’s still room in a few like hip hop, super science (where science meets improv!), and a new musical theatre dance offering for younger students on Tuesday mornings! Our online classes have lots of space of course, with Music Theory, Intro to Shakespeare, and Wednesday art classes (charcoal cartoon drawing!). There is something for everyone and it’s *so* good to get out and get creative, even with the socially distant measures. Looking back on 2020, we see how much we grew through extraordinary circumstances. But you all know that. For this last post of 2020, I want to focus on the people in our community who also blazed a path through the pandemic in their own way.
